Wise Wool Celebration 2025
The Wise Wool Project's annual Woolly Celebration Day at Kate Kearneys Cottage on the 8th November will bring a mix of artists, farmers and the minds behind the science of bringing value to Irish wool together for demonstrations, workshops and discussion.
Try your hand at wet and needle felting and see spinning and weaving
in action. Booking is required for some of the events.
11:00AM - 12:00PM: WET FELTING WORKSHOP (ALL AGES) with Wise Wool
The Wise Wool project offers a wet felting workshop for children aged 6+. Kerry and Lisa from the Wise Wool project will share the value of wool as we teach the little ones how to wet felt raw wool together to make a square wall decoration. The workshop is for families who are curious about nature, crafts, and climate-friendly living.
11:30AM - 13:00PM: TABLET WEAVING workshop (12y+) with Olann & Seol
Olann&Seol offers a workshop for children 12+ and adults. Fern and Jork from Olann&Seol will teach you an ancient craft that uses square tablets with holes to hold warp threads. These threads are then turned to create a shed, through which the weft thread is passed, forming a strong, narrow band of intricate patterns. This compact and portable method, popular for creating belts, straps, and decorative trims, dates back to at least 1200 BC.
12:00PM - 12:45PM: STORYTELLING with Sean (an Seanchai)
Join us for a very special story telling session by the fireside. Sean (an Seanchai) is a storyteller with a difference, he tells most of his stories to his herd of goats and he invites others to listen to. Sit back, relax and listen to his stories of sheep, goats and whatever else he may feel inspired to share.
All ages welcome, no booking needed.
13:30PM - 15:00pm: NEEDLE FELTING WORKSHOP (ADULTS ONLY) with Sharon Well Arts
Join us for a needle felting workshop (adults only). Under the guidance of Sharon Wells, Feltmaker and Artist, you will learn how to create a unique landscape picture of the Kerry countryside. You will use hand dyed wool sourced from Irish farms. You will learn about different wool types and their qualities. We will discuss composition, light and shade, textures and so much more.
13:30 - 14:30PM: SPINNING DEMONSTRATION
No booking required.
15:00pm - 16:00PM: PANEL DISCUSSION with Q&A
